Good morning! It's going to be another very hot and humid day. They're saying we could see 100 this afternoon.  I think we'll be staying inside.

Monica's at home and doing pretty good. She has a walker to help her get around. Right now, she's doing the range of motion exercises with her legs and it seems to really be helping. The doctor at the hospital is having her to continue taking the meds she's been taking until she sees her neurologist on Tuesday.

Nothing much going on here. I made some bread yesterday and used some limes I had in a key lime pie. Then we had fajitas and Mexican rice for supper. After all that, I was exhausted. I think I'm going to take today off. LOL!
You all enjoy your day!  Hugs!

Good morning!
It's bright and sunny this morning. We could reach 98 this afternoon. The humidity is very high so it feels awful out there. We're not planning on going anywhere.

Monica is doing much better. She has full use of the left leg again. As of last night, the numbness was wearing off the right leg. It was still numb from the knee down, but Monica's doing range of motion exercises while she's laying in bed, so I'm sure that's helping. Thankfully, she's not just laying there feeling sorry for herself. She said she was supposed to have the last round of steroids this morning, and then they were going to let her go home. She could get around somewhat with a walker. The physical therapist told her to keep up with the range of motion exercises and get up and walk around a little, but don't overdo.
She's anxious to get home and you know Kyle is!

You know, I've read so much about MS and the different things that could happen. People in my MS support group are always saying this or that is happening to them. I read their posts and am thankful that I haven't had to go through that. But, when this happens to someone close, it's scary. I told Michael that it could happen to me. One just never knows what MS is going to do. Even though there are some neurologists who consider themselves MS experts, they don't have the answers, either. There's alot of research on MS, but even the scientists don't really know how it works or why people get it. I'm hoping that I won't have to go through what Monica's going through, but one never knows.

I'm going to run along and have my coffee. I've got a couple of things I want to get done today. You all have a great day!  Hugs!

RE:JULY 21 - 27th

Good morning!
Monica's doing pretty good. She's had a team of 3 neurologists working with her. They've been doing one test after another. Yesterday afternoon it was an MRI from her head to her toes. She called late last night and the head neurologist had been in to see her. He said that after looking at most of the test results, he's positive that this is a major MS relapse.  He said she could probably go home today or tomorrow.
She has regained the use of her left leg, but it's painful. The right leg is beginning to come around. Last night she could wiggle her toes. So, she was really happy!
Kyle is staying at the hospital with her because Bobby can't be there. He had a couple of doctor appointments yesterday and he has another one today and one tomorrow. He's so sweet, because he didn't want Monica to be there all alone. Kyle doesn't seem to mind. He has his iPad and his phone. The hospital allows a patient who is on a normal diet to order whatever food they have on the menu and as much of it as they want. So, the nurse told Monica just to order double. That way Kyle can eat, too.

When Monica comes home, she'll need a wheelchair. The doctor is sure that she'll get the use of her right leg eventually. That's the thing about MS - it causes different things to happen and in a few days it all clears up.
Even the doctors have trouble with it all. MS is such a hard condition to take care of and live with.  You just never know what it's going to throw at you from one day to the next.

I managed to walk out to the mail box yesterday to get the mail and I ran into Sandra (our office manager). I was telling her about Bertha standing on the porch ranting and raving to no one and I thought Sandra was going to roll on the ground laughing. She was telling me that with all the medical problems that Bertha has right now, she thinks that she's stepped over the edge. It seems that Bertha will be having some major surgery pretty soon, but I don't know what it is. Sandra said she wasn't sure either. I really feel bad for her. It seems that with everything she has to go through now, there's no one around to support her. No matter how she acts, I'll still say prayers for her.

I think I'm going to take Gene's advice and take a day off. LOL! I've got my coffee and my laptop, my crossword book and the book I've been reading, so that'll keep me busy! You all enjoy this beautiful day!  Hugs!

Pat - When will you find out the results of all these tests?   I'll bet it's nice to be able to just stay at home and relax for a couple of days.
Yes, I am worried about Monica, but I know she's in good hands. She has an appointment on Tuesday with the neurologist she's been seeing for the last year or more. The one who's been taking care of her at the hospital is sending him all the test results. I have a feeling that Monica will be on one of the MS meds. But, we'll just wait and see.  You take care of yourself!

Beautiful Summer day and evening!  I had no appointments yesterday or today.  It feels weird!  Today I've been working on laundry so now we have fresh sheets on our bed and clean clothes on the way.  I'm getting more comfortable here and have begun puttering around during the day while the kids are at work.  Its surprising how much you can get done by simply puttering from one thing to another.  I've made the odd meal and expect I will do a lot more after we're settled.

Quite a few people have viewed our house but our realtor is off this week so we haven't really gotten any feed back lately.  I'm sure she will call us on her return on Monday.  Jim's sister, Elaine, has called to ask when she can come down from SSM.  Gee, I'm not even sure where we can put her!  I finally decided that we could stay at the old place with her.  It still has the beds set up.  I don't know how long she would stay but knowing her, it will be for the duration of my illness!  I spent just over a month in Sault St Marie when she contracted Cancer a few years ago.  I think the help and the company kept her going when she was scared and worried about it all.

Its funny but we haven't been getting the really hot days and most of our evenings are actually cool.  We sit out on the back deck and most times I need a wrap of some kind or a jacket.  Strange summer!

PAT

Hi Marsha - Most definitely sending prayers and warm wishes to Monica!  I sure am hoping that this spell passes quickly.  You must be so worried...  Bless Bobbie for being with her at this time.....
I'm afraid that Bertha must be a few bricks short of a load.  I know she has a lot medically to contend with but it doesn't sound like she handles it all very well.  Its a shame her 'friends' are only there at party time....

Good morning!

I'm going to ask you all for prayers for Monica. Bobby called late last night and said that she was in the ER. She was walking from the living room and all of a sudden her legs just gave out and she went to the floor. He got her in the bedroom and up on the bed, but she had no feeling in her legs and couldn't move them.
On top of that she started having a major panic attack. So, he called the ambulance. When Bobby called, Monica was in the ER here in town.
Then, he called about 2:30 this morning and said they were transferring her to the hospital down in Tyler. They wanted her to see a neurologist ASAP. So, she's at the East Texas Medical Center.
That's all I know so far.

I'm going to be sitting here by the phone. There are things I need to do, but I don't know if I'll have enough brain power. I'm sure the neurologist will find that Monica is having a major MS relapse, but I'm still worried.

Nothing much else going on. It's been all quiet except for Bertha's ranting. You know what's funny? She's just standing in the middle of the porch ranting at herself. No one's there and she's not on the phone. Kind of makes me wonder if she's losing some sanity. You know the really sad part? Of all the people who were out here this weekend, not a one has come by to give her any moral support.

I need to run for now. You all have a great day!  Hugs!

RE:JULY 21 - 27th
(Date Posted:07/23/2014 10:04 AM)

Good morning everyone! We've got clouds skittering around. The sun pokes in and out. It's going to get up around 95 today and rather muggy.

Obviously, Bertha was spoken to by either Sandra or the owner about her weekend party. She's pissed! We've heard her outside this morning ranting and raving to no one. Yup! There's no one out there, but she's out there hollering. LOL!
At some point, she'll probably have something to say to one of us. Oh well! I'm not going to get into it, but I will tell her that if she and her guests had had a bit of consideration, then we wouldn't have said a word. We'll see what happens.

So, Michael and I went up to the store yesterday. I had to pick up a couple of refills and then they got us with markdowns!  I got a big bag of mixed summer squash for just $2. I weighed it when we got home and it was 5 lb.! It was mostly zucchini and yellow crookneck.  Then, there was a bag with carrots, limes and brussel sprouts. That was $2. And a bag with 2 large heads of lettuce for $2. As we walked down the meat counter we came across 2 beautiful sirloin steaks. Those were marked down to $2.50 each. After that, we walked around to the dry goods mark down rack and there were 3 bottles of flavorings for 50 cents each - root beer, coffee and maple. We got some great deals along with the sale items we picked up.

Once we got home, I was looking up recipes and came across some good ones! The first one is a carrot zucchini bread. Then, there was a recipes for zucchini fries and squash patties. They all sound good! I even found a recipe for some root beer float cookies. Looks like I'm going to be cooking! Hee! Hee!

I need to run along. Michael just brought me a fresh cup of coffee. You all have a great day!  Hugs!

Good morning! It's already up to 79 - headed for 95 this afternoon. The humidity is up around 70%, so I guess it's a bit muggy out there. According to my weather bug, it's going to be like this all week.
We're going to run to the store later on. We're about out of dry cat food and there are a few things I need. I must of run out of onions. I never do that!

I went up to the office yesterday morning to talk with Sandra. She wasn't at home Sat. night, so she didn't see all that was going on then. But, she had someone to bring her home late Sat. night so she could keep an eye on things out here. She saw what was going on Sunday, but because of where her apartment is, she couldn't see that we were blocked in. Even though she could see there were "festivities" going on, she didn't know the whole thing. After I told her, she said that she will definitely do something about this. First, it's against the rules to have a large gathering on  the porch. It has to be done in your apartment. And then, it's against the fire code to put the grill on the porch. It has to be out in the grassy areas or on the sidewalk. What I didn't know was that Bertha has already been cited for doing this kind of thing. You see, she used to live in an apartment out back and then moved into this one. She'd done this same thing when she lived out back. Anyway, Sandra told me that Bertha is only staying there because of the owner feels sorry for her. Michael and I were a bit worried about our standing, but Sandra told me that we didn't have anything to worry about. We pay our rent on time and we don't ever bother anyone. She and the owner wish they had more tenants like us. That was nice to hear!
As for the drug dealers across the way, they're working on evicting them.
Sandra also told me that this town's police department has refused to come out here to take care of anything. I'm going to talk to her again and suggest that she call the sheriff's office and see if they'd come out here. After all - we need some kind of law enforcement out here. That's why the dealers are getting away with their crap. So, we'll see what happens.

Other than that, there's really nothing else going on here. It's all quiet. I'm going to finish my coffee so we can get moving. You all have a wonderful day!  Hugs!

Pat - I know how you felt! Back in the summer of 2010 when I was going through all this testing, I went in for a Cat Scan and they couldn't find a vein. After they collapsed 3 veins and left bruises all over both arms, I told them that we'd reschedule. I'd had enough! But, I understand that you needed to have this done then so you could move on. It's hard to be poked and prodded . I'm hoping that your test today is so much easier!
You're in my thoughts and prayers. Sending lots of love!

Hello group - Did not have a good day today.  I was scheduled for a head scan in Barrie and it was supposed to be a reasonably simple affair.  But I have had so many people poking holes in me lately that today's nurse just couldn't find a good spot for her poke!  She kept apologizing over and over as she stabbed me here and there with no luck at all.  Finally she called another nurse who took her turn doing the same thing.  After awhile my whole left arm was bruised and very sore.  I had enough by then and told them to go for the foot which is not a fun place to get an injection.  They found what seemed like a good vein and tried again.  They got the nettle in ok but then the vein collapsed.  So they used the smallest nettle they had and managed to get in around my wrist.  When the fella took me in for the scan, he used that stint to inject the dye and then rinsed with Heparin.  The actual x-rays only took about 5 minues and I was done.

Before they started to take the nettle out, I asked them if they could use it tomorrow for my Pet-Scan?  They weren't sure so I had them wrap it and leave it in.  Tomorrow is in Toronto.  I have to admit, I'm getting a little frustrated with all this. But I'm doing everything they say!

PAT

Hi Marsha - That is very inconsiderate to block your exit for their parties.  Are there not any lawn areas they could use?  Not much help from the Police either!

RE:JULY 21 - 27th
(Date Posted:07/21/2014 7:18 AM)

Good morning! The sun is bright this early in the morning. We woke up early so went ahead and got up. I'd like to have a couple of cups of coffee before I got up to the office.  I fully intend to talk to Sandra about this weekend's porch party.

I really don't care how many parties there are out there, but don't block us so we can't get out.Bobby called the police yesterday morning, but they wouldn't do anything. They told Bobby that it wasn't grounds for police intervention. Hmmmm. I knew the police department in this town was sad, but this is ridiculous. Bobby said he even told them about the drug deals, but the cop said that the activity would be all over before they could get out here. Sounds to me like the cops just didn't want to be bothered. I'm really not surprised.

Other than my walk up to the office, we don't have anything planned for today. So, I guess I'll have my coffee and do my posting. You all have a great day!  Hugs!

Pat - My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you. Sending lots of love, too!
