AUGUST 18 - 24TH

 photo 36_13_1.gif

What's New This Week??

G O L D

In August of 1896, George Carmack, Dawson Charlie and Skookum Jim discovered gold in what is now called Bonanza Creek. Soon after came one of the world's greatest gold rush stampeded; nearly 100,000 people attempting to strike it rich in the Klondike gold fields.

Today, the Yukon celebrates our grand history with a week-long event in Dawson City, known as Discovery Days. From family-friendly events such as crafts, face painting and a sampling of the Diamond Tooth Gerties' Can Can dancers show, to writing competitions, walking tours, an arts festival and a golf tournament, there's barely enough hours in the day to do and see everything!

Good morning ladies! It's going to be another hot day, so we'll be staying in under the AC.
I made us an apple crumb pie yesterday. I used one of the Keebler Shortbread Crusts. That really came out good. I was going to use a graham cracker crust, but Junior got to nosing around when I was rinsing off the apple slices and he knocked it off the counter. Luckily, when it hit the floor, it landed flat on it's bottom. But, it turned into crumbs - the whole crust just collapsed. I hollered at Junior and he took off running. I saved the crumbs. I'm sure if I add a bit of  melted butter, then I can make it into a crust again.
In the middle of all this, I defrosted the freezer. Yes, even though the landlord provides a refrigerator, it's an old one and has to be defrosted. Of course, that's always fun!
By the time I was finished I was really tired. So, it was baked chimichangas for supper - something easy. Today, I'm taking it easy. We have leftovers for supper tonight.
I'm going to run along and enjoy my coffee while it's quiet here and the phone isn't ringing. You all have a nice, peaceful day!  Hugs!

Good morning!
Lots of sunshine and humidity. The temps are going to be up around 100 for the next few days.
We still haven't made it to the store, but there's nothing desperate that we need. We'll go one of these days. LOL!

Nothing much to report here. I'm going to have my coffee and see about getting something done around here. You all have a great day!  Hugs!

Pat - Is that the contraption you had to use? I hope that's the last or close to the last of your tests so you can get on to the treatments. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.

Hi Folks - Yesterday was my Pulmonary Function Test.  What a hoot!  I spent most of the time coughing into the machine.  But we did finally get some proper readings.  Now I see each of the two heads of the treatment departments on Monday and Tuesday.  So at least the radiation part of the treatment should start very soon now.  I have been very tired lately which is the way my body reacts to any illness.  I guess by the time we start with the radiation, I'll be sleeping almost 24/7.  Works for me!

Good morning!
It's going to be another hot day. But, we'll be going to the store today. We didn't go yesterday. Michael's back was really bothering him and then my knee decided to go out. I was in the kitchen fixing some lunch and it popped and then tried to collapse. I'm thinking I moved just right and tore the meniscus. So, we rested most of the afternoon. I put ice on my knee. It feels better this morning, but I know it's not healed. I'll just have to take it easy over the weekend and keep some ice on it.

The box from my sister arrived yesterday. Luckily, it wasn't in bad shape. From what my sister had said, there were only 5 or 6 pair of slacks. But, when I opened the box, there were 20 or more pairs!!!! All still in the plastic wrappers. There were a couple of nice, warm, fuzzy bath robes. Then, there was a box with a beautiful golden cross that had been on Mom's casket. Along with it, was a tiny little box with her engagement ring and the picture I asked my sister for. It was taken at my sister's wedding - Aug. 1978. Mom's MS was in full swing then, but my Dad wanted to dance with her, so he pretty much held her up. My sister didn't expect this, so when she saw them she grabbed the photographer to get the picture. I'm going to see if I can find a frame for it.

Nothing much else happening around here. I'm going to finish my posting so we can get to the store and get that done with. Then, we'll be taking it easy.
You all have a great day!  Hugs!

Good morning! It's going to be another hot and humid day. The weatherman is saying that it looks like we're in for a fairly long stretch of this.  It looks like I'll be staying in as much as possible.

Nothing much going on here. We were just hanging around the house yesterday. Today we're planning on running up to Cash Saver to pick up a few things. Then, by the store to pick up one of my refills. We won't be gone very long, thankfully.

That box from my sister was supposed to arrive today, but it doesn't look like it's going to get here. We'll see. Experience has proven that when the package is going to be a day or so late, then it comes in all beaten up. Let's hope not!

I need to finish my coffee so we can get moving before it gets too hot. You all have a wonderful day!  Hugs!

Good morning!
It's bright and sunny today. They're saying that it could get up to 100. It's very humid, too. We'll be staying inside.

Thankfully, my legs are feeling lots better today. But, I think I'll be resting. We need to run up to the store tomorrow and I need to be ready. LOL!

Nothing much going on, so I'm going to finish up my coffee and then see what kind of trouble is lurking around. LOL! You all have a great day!  Hugs!

Good morning!
It's kind of cloudy this morning, but they're not saying anything about any rain. It sure is humid out there, though.

We decided to go up to Walmart late last night. I don't know if we'll do that again! We used to do it all the time and it was so much easier because there wasn't the crowds. Of course, we have to weave around the pallets with all the new stock on them, but that's no bother.
We got everything we needed. And, I even found that they  have 25 lb. sacks of flour!!!!! Yay!!!!!  Good price, too. It was only $8.
Anyway, we were both tired when we walked out. And this morning, my legs are really achy. I think we'll take it easy.

I was seriously considering getting one of those riding carts at Walmart. But, when we went in, there wasn't any sitting there. So, I assumed that the employees had them in the back cleaning them up. No so. There were teenagers in the store who had them and were racing them all over the place! None of the employees were saying anything to them. Like I said to Michael - this is why none of these are available for the people who need them.

I'm going to run and watch the news with my coffee. You all have a great day! Hugs!

Pat - I'm saying lots of prayers for you. Stop in once in a while and let us know how things are going. Have the doctors definitely concluded that you have the big "C"? I was so hoping it wasn't. I'm keeping a candle lit for you.

Hi everyone - Our second day of sunshine!  It's been wonderful!  I have been getting tired of so much rain.  Our nights have not been warm either.  Very weird weather for August.

So today was a free day for me.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) I go for another abdominal Cat Scan.  They sure have been putting me through the wringer!  It looks like I'll be starting my first radiation next week.  I will find out about the Chemo this week too.  Then its just pray & hope for the best!

We spent a lot of today at the old place going through some more boxes and bringing a bit more back here.  There was another couple checking it out today between 4 & 5.  I sure hope they like it!  It would be great to get an offer on the place.  We are keeping the old address in the files at the post office until everyone has been notified of the new one.  Getting 'er done!

Good morning! We've got some hazy sunshine this morning. The weather channel is saying that we could have more showers this afternoon.  We got some yesterday, but it wasn't enough to settle the dust.  I figure that with the El Nino developing, we could have lots of rain in a couple of months. But, it's just one of those things we'll have to wait and see about.

Nothing much going on around here. We talked about running up to the store today, but we'll decide on that later. I really do need to get some flour. Yes, ladies, I ran out! I never do that, but I must have NOT written it on my list the last time we went, so didn't get any. I wish I could find those 25 lb. sacks like I used to get. Maybe that would last me a while.

Let me go see what kind of trouble I can get into. You all have a great day!  Hugs!
